Coral Springs Police Department Neutralized Shooter in Parkland, Florida: Coral Springs Fire / EMS Saved Countless Lives

February 23, 2018

Coral Springs Police, Fire and EMS hold a press conference to share their experiences as the lead agencies that made access to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the mass casualty shooting was ongoing.

As part of Broward County, Florida, the Coral Springs Police Department has primary responsibility for all emergency calls including the schools.  It was due to the professionalism and bravery of these agencies that the carnage was limited to what it was, and not worse.  Rapid deployment of tactical teams to neutralize the threat, as well as immediate triage and treatment of the wounded undoubtedly saved lives.  More to follow as details become known.

There was confusion previously as to who stopped the shooter at the high school;  Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel had given the impression to the media that his Officer had neutralized the threat, however, it is coming to light that Coral Springs Police were in fact the neutralizing force.
